Urban Initiative Accomplishments
May 2007– We partnered with St. Louis Healthy Start. The Healthy Start Program assists young women who are pregnant and/or are new moms.
March 2007– We joined forces with the eScrip program. When shopping at any local Schnuck’s Grocery Store, a percentage of the purchase will be donated to our Child Prep. Development Center, if you present one of our registered community cards.
November 2006– Urban Initiative received a yearly renewable grant from Health Futures to promote healthy lifestyles.
September 2005-Urban Initiative received a 2 year; $25,000 grant from Support A Child entitled Search Your Heart. The grant is designed to educate African Americans about reducing cardiovascular disease and stroke risk factors.
July 2005– Castle Point, MO is our neighboring community. The community has a significant amount of youth that are at risk. We have partnered with the Castle Point Family Support Center to aid in changing the direction of the neighborhood.
January 2005– Urban Initiative partnered with the St. Louis Tax Assistance Program (TAP). Those who meet the criteria, can come to Believers Temple and have their taxes professionally done free of charge. Together, we offer this program annually each Sunday in February.
October 2004– The All About Women Program established a link with Behavior Health response (BHR), Alternatives to Living in Violent Environments (ALIVE) and Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies (AWARE). We refer women to these programs that can provide immediate emergency assistance to women seeking shelter, counseling and protective services.
2003– Urban League granted us $3000 to purchase supplies, snacks and toys for the youth.
September 2003– Urban Initiative was awarded a grant entitled Helping Outreach Programs to Expand (HOPE). The grant is designed to provide critical services to victims of crime. The organization that we partnered with was Parents of Murdered Children. The grant money was used to implement a hotline and to provide workshops.
